Our Identity

Catholic

Catholic.

We are part of a faith community in the Catholic tradition which embraces all into full participation in the sacramental life of the church. As a member of the Old Catolic Church, we trace our roots through the Archdiocese of Utrecht which broke away from the Roman Catholic Church as a response to the First Vatican Council’s pronouncement of Papal Infallibility. Although not part of the Roman Catholic church, we share in many of the same beliefs such as: the teaching and person of Jesus of Nazareth, the Scriptures, the Nicene Creed, the Sacramental and Liturgical traditions, and Apostolic Succession. We share a common theology and liturgical tradition.

Welcoming

Welcoming.

The love of God is open to everyone and we are here to meet you where you are along your journey. The church is called to mirror God’s love and to be a safe haven for all those who long to feel His embrace. Our doors are always open to everyone and anyone who is seeking a loving and supportive faith community.

Inclusive.

We are an open and affirming parish community inviting people of every age, race, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, gender expression, means, ability, and spiritual tradition to join together with us in the love of God and service of our neighbor.

Who are we?

We are an independent Catholic community that is part of the Progressive Catholic Church. We have our roots in the tradition of the Old Catholic Church, thus we have apostolic succession and valid sacraments. We aim to be a beacon of light and hope for all who seek God and have been turned away by others. We hope we can make a difference in the world and bring the sacraments of the Church to all who desire them. Our theology is guided by the spirit of Vatican Council II which called upon the Church to be the Body of Christ in the world. We are a viable option for those seeking to feel at home in a valid Catholic community which strives to teach and live the Gospel of Jesus Christ. St. Thomas More is a place for Contemporary Catholics, seeking to learn about God and God’s will, to reach out and share what they have learned and experienced.

What do we believe?

We are a creedal church therefore we affirm the Nicene Creed, the Apostle’s Creed, and the Ecumenical Councils of the Church. We believe in the inherent dignity of all people and truly welcome all to worship with us. We believe that the sacraments of the Church are available to everyone. We recognize that all of us are broken and in need of Christ’s mercy and aim to create a place where all can come and worship in a judgement-free and safe space. Our theology is informed by our belief that the Holy Spirit is calling us to participate in the re-creation and renewal of the Catholic Church. We trust that God has called us into existence to be a healing presence to those who feel that the Church has left them, and we welcome all to come home to a faith that lives and works in and through the People of God. Simply put, we believe that we are called to follow Christ’s two commandments: love God and love one another as he loves us.

How do we worship?

Our liturgy is decidedly Catholic. We utilize the second edition of the Roman Missal which was prepared in accord with the decrees of Vatican Council II. We
worship with music, song and words with the hope to motivate us on our spiritual journey. We affirm that the Eucharist is the Source and Summit of the life
of the Church. We adhere to the traditional theology and devotion of the Real Presence within the Blessed Sacrament.
